where it ranked #1.

Are you sure your a rookie? I mean, with your musical knowledge, listen to your song. Does it sound ROOKIE to you? Hmm.. I don't think so. You are not a rookie by experience. Your technique and form really stands out. You could have entered this in Intermediate, and still ranked in block 1. Poor rookies. Think of all those poor rookies that won't get a fair chance, and get disencouraged from tracking. *sniff*.. doesn't that make you wanna cry (-_-) .. You better enter veteran next year. Ok, enough of my whinning. Onto the song stuff. First of all, this song gives me goosebumps. But it's a demo/style song, it's supposed to give people goosebumps, nothing special there. Your vocals are appropriate. Your ending related to the beginning, very professional. You handled the lead extremly well. I think i heard this melody before, with the piano support etc... I think it's from "Fantasmic" in disney land. No.. that's not it, sounds like that. Anyway, the melody is *too* familiar, and it's hurting originality. Anyway, enjoy beating up on the rookies, and if you win, enjoy being crowned the winner of *rookie* division.

Nice pm/skaven-like music. Reminds me of the oldskewl dayz. It's got all the classics.. a muted synth, pulsing bass, staccato high synths, and a simple beat. Great ol' oldskewl styled samples. It's classic music rewriten for the Impulse Tracker / FT generation. Hehee... you know your roots :) Still, this track exhibits new styles of tracked music as well - including better sounding, and better tracked, pianos. The end is very nice. A good closure for a good beginning. This one's gotta be one of my favorites. Though it may not be the most original, it is well thought out, well composed, and original in the less historical aspects. Anyway, what this track lost for "originality", it is more than made up by the musician's obvious mastery of the tracker and talent. It's a triumph, a captivating and exciting piece.

This guy sounds like profi multiinstrumentalist musicians ( some of them ) . Very good chord progression with easy piano feedback to violin? lead. Some samples feels like oldfashioned ones but too seriously. Not bad tech with changing BPM and okay panning and other fx

INSTRUMENTATION/SAMPLES: The set was good in both quality and selection, though there are a couple of things that bugged me. The pianos sound really fake. This is mainly due to looping a very small section of the end of the wave as part of the sustain. What happens is that after the attack phase is gone you get this real flat (not pitch flat) synthetic-sounding quality. It is especially obvious where the piano is pretty much by itself in the beginning and ending. Ways to get around this include 1) using a pingpong loop over a larger section of the wave, 2) using more than one piano sample (i.e. 2 channels) for each instance of the piano instrument, or 3) fading the piano out faster near the end. Also, the string hits sound weak---a light attack rate. To add more punch to it, short of resampling, you can add another string hit at for the same note but about an octave higher at about half the volume. The guitar lead was nice, though the attack on the guitar was very soft. A stronger "pick" would have been nice. -=-=-=- TECHNIQUE: The percussion was extremely quiet in comparison to the rest of the instruments in the song. Snares could have been about 40% louder, the bass drum (Ins 09) about twice that, and I could barely pick out the hi-hats. So, it came out heavy on the leads. I don't think you really need to resample, but changing the volumes around might have been better. -=-=-=- ORIGINALITY: The violin (?) as a lead instrument was a refreshing change from the other synthy stuff that we're so used to hearing. -=-=-=- FORM: Nice dreamy intro and good use of atmospheric samples. Very nice chord progression. -=-=-=- OVERALL: A good song that should have competed in the intermediate category. ^_^ -=-=-=-

a direct descendant of "Inside-out" and a number of other Purple Motion tunes.. despite the over-influence, a very enjoyable and well tracked tune... form - very clean and professional.. killer transition from the opening...schweet chorus as well... relavent structure throughout and flows nicely.. technique - impressive, although heavily influenced (inspired).. a little static as far as panning goes.. for a dynamic song like this things should really be thrown around for effect (percussion especially).. same with volume levels-> go nuts... samples - great instrumentation (very PMish/demotuneish) for this style though not brilliantly original... overall, awesome piece for rookie level (if it truly is that).. keep it up...

Very nice introduction. Good mood that it sets. The piano riffs are fitting and the strings come in nicely. Now we get to the meat of the song. I'm instantly taken back to the mid-80's movie soundtracks: the kinda Synth-Pop thing that happens in those movies if you remember. Nice song overall. Oh and that ending was soooooooooooooo nice. Can't say there has been a whole lot of this kind of song in the past in the tracker scene. There are some curions time and mood changes but the song is pretty nice to listen to. Original, that's for sure. The parts of the song don't exactly flow very well but they are not abrasive either. A little preamble to some of the changes would be cool to the ear. As far as emphasis (about halfway through the song) go, the notes cut off somewhat when trying to make that emphasis and there isn't enough residual sound to keep it sustained. That's something that will make things work much better. Definitely well done, especially for a rookie song! A lot of the portas in the song are well done. Even more well done is the chord progressing, the question and answer stuff, the repetition with variation. Yegads this is a great song from a musical perspective. The sample aren't the greatest quality but they get the job done for this particular song. The piano is the one thing that I'll pick on as needing a little more meat to it. It was very pingy as opposed to having any substance. Other than that, the samples were very good.

I've got a problem. I can't get this tune out of my head. It's really becoming a problem for me. No seriously - this is really really good stuff. I had to look several times at the filename to make sure, that this was not a veteran-entry, because it sure as hell sounds like one! It's not everyday you get to listen to this kind of work. Great melody, great form, catchy break and really nice riffs everywhere. From order #17 reminded me of the famous french amiga-composer Audiomonster - really great harmonies! Anyway, all these fine words ofcourse means high rates on most of the categories, but there are (ofcourse) a few things, that IMO could make this tune one of _the_ best tunes overall in this years MC. Well, it's really just one thing, I'd like to comment on, and that's the samples. The piano is a bit too "tiny" (from the GUS-patchset?) and the rest of the samples are a bit overused - meaning we've heard them many times before. Using "old" samples is not something I find annoying - the over-all sound of the tune is what counts IMO, and the sound of this tune is good - although I do think some volume-mixing could've been used with a ositive result. It's all very loud - and at the end it is close to sound, well, distorted even. To end this comment, I'd like to say, that I really look forward to see, who made this tune, as I'll definately download everything by this guy! Damn good job!

Originality: This is a classic tracked song, with a hunch of 80's style;) Not very originaly, but it variates and has nice progression. Form: Clearly divided into sections. But the chord-progression is really great, a little classic though. Nice intro and ending. Technique: Why do you use that annoying bass? The lead intrument is tuned too high! The effectuse is ok. Your musical insight is very good, with the chords and leads in mind. Low score because of the bass and stuff. Samples: Nothing to complain about. Mostly ripped i think. The leadinstrument are too high. Overall Appeal: This could be a tune to a actionserie form the 80's or something. I think is it a good track with many good aspects, but you have got some tracking errors(The leads and stuff, too much noise). Your musical insight increases the score!

Characterized by a significative intro, this song present a particular armonic progression. The change of basic rythmic after the intro is refreshing. The samples are good but not particularly innovative. The choice of using that lead sample for main theme is not happy, while interchanging it with other edgeless sample would have improved the overall quality of this nice piece. The author shows good skill in tracking and promises great things for the future.

What a great tune! Very pro-done sound effects. Great melody and carefully chosen chord progression. You really know, what's making music all about. First place IMHO... Well, I also have to complain about something... hmmm... well... use more panning next time :) And definitely enter veteran div in MC7! Anyway, are your tunes to be found anywhere on the net? You know what I think of this one, I judged it voluntarily in round 1. Oh, and that violin REALLY does need to be replaced with, say, a panflute or something. :) On the whole, however, this song has just grown and grown on me. I honestly can't have enough of it. I can't see myself ever deleting this one - I've already started making my own changes to it, and I only ever do that to the songs I like the most. ;) I'm now more convinced than ever that you're gonna win rookie division. Next year, give the real rookies a chance and enter vet. ;)

Too bad you didn't have more room for samples... The piano in the opening/ending would have sounded awesome reverbed. Alright, this is a song to make Eno and Vangelis blush. It just needs a -little- refining. The hihat is a little too loud and harsh. The lead needs a stronger echo and a bit of EQ to soften it. The saw lead is also a bit too harsh (not sure how to fix that, though... Stronger echo, maybe, and a little more EQ). This song is right on-par with some of the best veteran entries, though. It gives me chills to see a rookie entry like this. A nice piece of fusion alltogether: obvious influence from new-age and jazz. Excellent work, truly. Your scores were all admirable: much higher than most of the vet scores I've given out so far. (I was very impressed with this piece. Can you tell?) Originality was excellent, Form was phenomenal, Technique was pretty good (few flaws, as above), and Samples were decent. The overall score was one of the highest I've given in both rounds, in all categories. You rock. :)

Yeaah!!! Good thing done by a rookie? Beeing surprised by this tune in all ways I can hardly imagine this was a rookie :-) Keep on composing man!!! You will surprise some professionals in future. This tune is not perfect but it will be more than a great start for a tracker musician. The style remembers me to some themes from ´news´. At least with a higher musical nivau than I heard from ´veteran´ musicians in this style. ;-) Listen to it!!! It´s worth listening!!! Best regards from a new fan of yours.
